Breathtaking mountain view at Whitefish Mountain Resort, a top destination for intimate and adventure weddings in Whitefish, Montana.

Have you ever heard of a little town called Whitefish, Montana? This hidden gem in the Rocky Mountains is an absolute paradise for couples who want an unforgettable wedding adventure! Whether your dream is to say "I do" on a stunning mountaintop with panoramic views all around, or having a romantic celebration just the two of you by a gorgeous alpine lake - Whitefish has the charm, the style, and tons of outdoor fun that'll turn your wedding into a one-of-a-kind experience for you and your guests.

In this guide, we'll dive into some amazing options for your Whitefish wedding weekend, from cozy lodging and ceremony locations, to dining experiences and activities that Whitefish has to offer. Together, we'll create a wedding weekend that'll feel nothing short of magical!

Enjoy Your Stay at Hidden Moose Lodge

Cozy and rustic Hidden Moose Lodge in Whitefish, Montana—ideal lodging for guests at a destination wedding in Glacier National Park.

Whitefish is just a short, 25 minute drive away from the Kalispell Airport, and there’s no better place to stay, in my opinion, than the Hidden Moose Lodge.

Hidden Moose Lodge is the epitome of Montana charm—think rustic log beams, warm fireplaces, and cozy spaces where you can relax after a day of exploring (not to mention they have an outdoor hot tub!) Tucked in the woods but just 5 minutes to downtown Whitefish, it gives guests the best of both worlds. So, if you're staying for just the weekend or plan on turning your wedding into a full-on vacation, Hidden Moose Lodge is the place to be! Annndd, did I mention there’s complimentary homemade breakfast every morning? - Chorizo quiche, huckleberry pancakes, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee, all while enjoying a quiet moment on the balcony - it’s making me hungry just thinking about it :D

Pro Tip for Booking:

When planning a destination wedding, it’s important to book lodging early. Since Whitefish is a popular destination, (especially in the summer and winter months) you’ll want to block out a set of rooms for your guests to make it easier for everyone to stay in the same place. Hidden Moose Lodge often fills up quickly, so make sure to reserve as soon as your date is set. They also offer discounts for group bookings, which can help with wedding budgets.

Choose an Awesome Ceremony Location for Your Whitefish Wedding

Whitefish Mountain Resort

Imagine exchanging vows with the world at your feet, surrounded by endless views of the Rocky Mountains and Glacier National Park in the distance. The summit at Whitefish Mountain Resort offers one of, if not the most breathtaking ceremony locations in Montana. With panoramic views of lush forests, meadows, and valleys, your ceremony will be unforgettable—not just for you but for all of your family and friends.

The best times for a wedding at Whitefish Mountain Resort are late spring through early fall when the weather is warm, the skies are clear, and the landscape is lush with greens and wildflowers. Summer is especially popular because of the long daylight hours, which makes it easier to plan an afternoon or evening ceremony followed by dinner and dancing back at the base lodge. Be sure to check the resort’s seasonal schedule since they typically open the chairlifts for weddings in late May and close them by early October.

One of the unique aspects of getting married at the summit of Whitefish Mountain Resort is the chairlift ride up to your ceremony site. Guests are treated to gorgeous views as they ride the lift up the mountain to join you at the top. To make everything run smoothly, coordinate with the resort's wedding planners (Sophie is amazing) to ensure your guests’ comfort, including giving them a heads-up to bring layers in case of cool mountain breezes. After your ceremony, there are countless photo opportunities at the summit, from sweeping landscapes to intimate moments as you walk along the trails. And if you’re up for it, a fun idea some couples opt for is to ride the resort’s alpine slide back down to the main lodge for your main entrance! Glacier National Park

For couples who want to be truly immersed in nature, Glacier National Park is the place to go. With towering mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and wildlife, it’s no wonder it’s called the "Crown of the Continent." So, if you’re dreaming of an intimate elopement just the two of you, or a small ceremony surrounded by your closest friends and family, Glacier offers a truly unforgettable backdrop that will make for spectacular photos and an awe-inspiring experience. (I've attached some photos below for the vibes and also some location ideas throughout Going-to-the-Sun Road if you have guests that can't do a hike - i.e. grandparents)

The Best Ceremony Spots in Glacier National Park

Some of the most popular spots for weddings and elopements in Glacier include the breathtaking Hidden Lake Overlook, which can be accessed from Logan Pass. This location offers sweeping views of Hidden Lake and the surrounding peaks, making it a stunning backdrop for intimate ceremonies. Another popular option is Avalanche Lake, which can be reached through the Trail of the Cedars. Surrounded by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls, this spot offers a magical setting for any celebration!

Permit Requirements

Because Glacier National Park is, well, a national park, and therefore a federally protected area, you’ll need to obtain a special use permit for wedding ceremonies. The permit process is straightforward, but it’s important to apply well in advance of your wedding date—like six months to a year ahead of time. The park limits the number of wedding ceremonies allowed in certain areas, so the sooner you apply, the better. The permit fee is minimal and helps to preserve the natural beauty of the park for future visitors. No matter which location you choose, just be sure to visit the site beforehand to plan for guest seating, timing, and transportation. (and don’t forget to book a photographer who can help with all the logistics ;)
